YOUNG LEARNERS EMPOWERED

November 2025.

Young learners from ten primary schools across the communities of Vryburg, Colridge, and Huhudi have come together through the annual Primary Sports Development Programme, a year-long initiative dedicated to sporting excellence, personal growth, and community spirit. Funded by Waterloo Solar, the initiative aims to create opportunities for learners to build skills, confidence, and character, while encouraging healthy and active lifestyles.

As part of the initiative, the solar plant provided financial backing for sporting equipment, kits, and coaching resources. It also partnered with local schools and educators to ensure structured and inclusive competitions.

“This programme is part of our broader commitment to community upliftment. By investing in youth, we are building future leaders who will contribute positively to society. Sports development also ties into our focus on education, health, and social cohesion. Through this initiative, we’re not just supporting a game, we’re shaping a generation that values teamwork, determination, and excellence,” said Qinisani Siveshe, Social Performance Manager.

Running from April to November 2025, the programme spans five sporting codes, including football, netball, cricket, basketball, and chess. It blends weekly matches with structured training sessions and mentorship from dedicated coaches. Beyond sport, the programme helps instil values of discipline, teamwork, respect, and resilience, equipping learners with skills that extend well into their future lives.

“This programme is about more than sport; it is also giving our kids the confidence to believe in themselves,” said one of the parents.

The season will culminate in finals in October, followed by an Awards Gala on 28 November 2025, where achievements in sportsmanship, talent, and personal growth will be celebrated. Looking ahead, the initiative plans to expand beyond its current sporting codes by exploring athletics, volleyball, and other activities, depending on community interest and resources.
